Analysis of the scene depicting Tellus

1- Locate the elements which suggest fertility in the image.
2- Nymphs. What do the draperies surrounding the nymphs suggest ? Find the elements which attribute a natural element to both nymphs (reminder : the natural elements are water, earth, fire, air). You can see in detail, in a new window, the nymph situated to the left, and the nymph situated to the right of the image.
3- Is the choice of the swan significant ? Why ?

4- Several composition lines were displayed on the image. What do you notice (in other words: what choice was made in the structure of the image) ? How would you interpret this choice ? Help
5-
The representation of the body of Tellus. Observe the features of the face, the lines of various parts of the body (neck, arms, breasts…), the character's attitude. Find some adjectives which you feel to be appropriate for qualifying this representation of the human body.

Draw conclusions :
a- Is this representation of Tellus : realistic - violent - symbolic - idealized - exuberant - balanced ? (Several adjectives may be used.)
b- What is its aim : informative, narrative, persuasive (the term persuasive rather than argumentative is when discussing a picture) ? Justify your answer.
