D’Artagnan was born between 1610 and 1620, in the CASTELMORE mansion, situated today in the village of Lupiac, district of Aignan in the Armagnac region. His father was called BERTRAND de BATZ – CASTELMORE. His mother, FRANCOISE de MONTESQUIOU, was the daughter of Lord d'ARTAGNAN en Bigorre. Hence his musketeer name of d’ARTAGNAN from his mother name.
